SCIENTIFIC NAME: Spatula platalea (syn) Anas platalea
HABITAT: Both fresh and brackish waters, including shallow ponds, lakes, marshes, estuaries, and coastal lagoons of South American from southern Peru to Tierra del Fuego.
CONSERVATION STATUS: Least Concern
FUN FACT: The red shoveler is common in its habitat range and can sometimes gathers in huge groups of 10,000 individuals or more. The red shoveler is the only shoveler duck of South America.
