SCIENTIFIC NAME: Atelerix albiventris
HABITAT: Sandy well drained soils in areas where it an sleep in dry shelters. Norther and central Africa, or Senegal to Sudan and southern Tanzania.
CONSERVATION STATUS: Least Concern
FUN FACT:
Hedgehogs eat primarily insects, earthworms, snails, and slugs, but a wide variety of other animal and even vegetable foods are eaten (eggs and ground nesting birds, small mammals, frogs, reptiles, crabs, fruit, fungi, roots and groundnuts). Hedgehogs will eat a third of their body weight in one night.
