SWIFT FOX
SCIENTIFIC NAME: Vulpes velox
HABITAT: Shot grass prairie of Central North America
CONSERVATION STATUS: Least Concern
FUN FACT:
Swift fox were extirpated from Kansas in the late 1800s, but gradually began to re-appear in the 1960s, due to land conservation plans. The decline of the swift fox is largely due to the conversion of short-grass prairie into agricultural fields.
